Mp3s which are mono as opposed to stereo, have a tendency to play
faster than they are supposed to when played in the garageband podcast
player.

the record: files should be 44.1 kHz stereo. You can choose to use the
same signal in both L and R channels to get a mono effect, but the file
itself should have a L and a R channel.

Why doesn't my song have any rank or score displayed?

If your song has no rank or score, there are three possible reasons:

GarageBand
only provides rankings and 5-star displays for songs that are entered
into the GarageBand contest. To submit a hosted mp3 for the contest,
you must first review some music,
or pay a small fee to earn a contest entry.

In return, your song will be assigned to get reviewed by
randomly-assigned listeners, you'll get text feedback, a 5-star
display, and you'll be ranked on our charts.

If you submitted your song to the review process recently,
you might not have a rank or 5-star display yet. A song with fewer than
10 reviews
cannot be accurately scored on the five-star scale. In this case you
will see a NO SCORE
graphic in place of your song's star display. Eventually your song will
have a ranking with the stars and chart positions.

Please note: On the day you receive the 10th review, (or more) the star
ranking wont display until the nightly ranking update. This occurs at
3am pacific time. Occasionally there are small delays due to technical
issues.

A song may also show NO SCORE if it was taken
out of the contest by the band before it had received all its reviews.
When a song is taken out of the contest prematurely, we
can't provide an accurate rank. For us to estimate your
rank based on a partial number of reviews would not be fair
to songs that have received all their reviews.

Note:

If
a song had a rank but reverts to No Score, it can happen if any of the
reviews that counted are removed. This can happen in the case of:

review removal

reviewer removal

removal of a competing song
